BCs are good in PvP and a lot cheaper to replace than T2 cruisers, so if all you seek is something to shoot stuff with, a BC might be just the right thing for you. Racial Cruiser V does open up more shiptypes though. You should probably get both...

Maybe there's old junk still running? Quit all EVE and Cider processes if there are any and see if it helps. A logout (out of MacOS X) or reboot will also do it.
